The Japanese Art of Ikebana became a favorite pastime for me several years ago and as a woodworker I enjoyed making Ikebana Vases and /or Ikebana Stands. Being fortunate enough to live in Hawaii I have been surrounded by beautiful wood and between the two loves I started making these Ikebana Vases.
This Ikebana stand is from a piece of Milo that is Deep robust red contrasting to brownish white sapwood along the edges. Growth rings emanate from the center giving it a luxurious appearance. This beautiful wood was prized by early Hawaiians second only to Kou, to make food bowls (ʻumeke milo), poi calabashes, platters (pā milo), and dishes. The bark was also used as cordage, while the fruits produce a yellowish green dye, medicine, oil, and gum.
This Milo Piece is 13 inches long, 6 to 9 inches wide and 1 5/8 inches tall. The Milo Vase comes with a three inch lip Kenzan (pin frog) made of brass with a Brass Antique finish. I am also adding a second Kenzan (pin frog) with a Black Pewter finish as a gift. Perhaps you can keep a more permanent dry arrangement in one of them for when you don't have fresh flowers. Both of these Kenzans appear in this listing. The Dried Eucalyptus Leaves of green and purple are used in this setting instead of fresh flowers to give you and idea of what kind of arrangements can be used.
This piece was free formed by myself with the use of my bandsaw and orbital sanders to provide a natural piece of practical art used for flower arrangements. The Deep Red Color is the natural color of Curly Hawaiian Milo and is finished with a Precatalyzed lacquer finish so it won't spot with spilled water.
It will be shipped by USPS Priority mail anywhere in the United States.
If you do not like the Ikebana Vase upon receipt you may return it for a no questions asked refund of your purchase price upon return of vase with shipping paid by you.
The Flowers in the pictures are not included in the sale as I'm sure you can find much better flowers in your yard.
Feel free to ask any and all questions you have about the product or Ikebana woodworking in general.
I will consider and have shipped to other Countries but only after we agree on prices and shipping. This must be done through the Convo system here on Etsy and is not available for all items due to the weight and shipping restrictions on some of my items.
I will however ship to friends or relatives of customers who are located in the USA and then they can make shipping arrangements to the customers location overseas.
